New Hampshire Executive Councilor John Stephen said in a May 22 post on X that students at Parkside Junior High School took part in a CPR Challenge training event.
“Incredibly grateful to Manchester School District and Parkside Jr High to host one of our Executive Council CPR Challenge trainings,” Stephen said. “It is so exciting to see the students learn this important life saving action. Thank you to AMR and Manchester Fire Department for bringing these life saving skills to our schools.”
Stephen made the statement after participating in the CPR training in the Manchester School District. The event involved the Manchester Fire Department and American Medical Response.
The Manchester School District said 659 students at Parkside completed hands-only CPR training in sessions lasting less than one hour each. The district said 1,197 residents in District 4 were trained through the initiative, while the statewide challenge reached more than 2,000 Granite Staters.
According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 out-of-hospital cardiac arrests occur in the United States each year. The organization says immediate bystander CPR can double or triple a victim’s chance of survival.
Stephen represents District 4 on the New Hampshire Executive Council. His official biography says he previously served as commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services and deputy commissioner of the New Hampshire Department of Safety.
