Republican House Candidate Jason Syversen has lost his bid for House District 16 to Democcratic incumbent Kevin Cavanaugh.
Syversen posted the following statement on his Facebook page on Nov. 4
“The results are in and it’s official that I lost my attempt for senate for district 16, losing by 1157 votes out of over 33,000 ballots cast. It was the 3rd closest race out of the 24 state senate races in the state.
“I had the privilege of meeting my opponent while knocking doors in his district the Friday before the election. After an awkward start we had a great discussion and agreed to meet after the election. We have similar aged children in college, and both of us want to help the people in our state and treat people with respect and kindness.
“The race taught me a lot about a lot of things from the process of politics, how voters think and what they care about, how much of an impact people can have in our state and some things about myself and friends/family.
“I really wanted to thank all of the supporters of the campaign. It was amazing to see how many people stepped up to give of their time, treasure and talents. The support from the people who got involved is the only reason it was competitive, I could not have done anything without it. Thank you to everyone for your support! The outpouring of support even after losing has been wonderful and greatly appreciated. It was an exhausting experience but I feel good knowing that I gave it my best shot, worked my butt off and hopefully people were positively affected by the race.
“Now that the race is over I’m collecting signs, finishing overdue campaign/personal projects and trying to spend time with family and hiking. In a few weeks I’ll start thinking about what’s next and meeting with some folks. Whatever it is this will inform my journey going forward and I hope to find other opportunities to serve and make a difference. Thanks again to everyone who was part of this journey and everything you did along the way!”
