The City of Nashua’s Director of Public Works has declared a snow emergency from 10 p.m. on Tuesday, December 2, until 6 a.m. on Wednesday, December 3. The decision follows a Winter Storm Warning issued by the National Weather Service for the greater Nashua area, with possible snow accumulations reaching seven inches or more and reduced visibility expected.

During the emergency period, residents are advised to avoid driving unless necessary to allow road crews to work efficiently. According to city officials, “It is very challenging to keep streets clear with heavy snow conditions and especially with ice. If you don’t need to be out on the roads, please stay off them for your safety and to make room for equipment working to keep roads open.” Primary routes will be prioritized for plowing, while residential side streets and regularly plowed sidewalks may not be cleared immediately.

Parking restrictions will be in effect throughout the snow emergency. There will be no on-street or municipal surface lot parking allowed during this time. Free parking is available at Elm Street and High Street garages as well as at 25 Crown Street behind Make It Labs once the emergency is announced; vehicles can be moved into these locations before 10 p.m. However, leased spaces in these garages cannot be used for snow emergency parking between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The overnight parking program is suspended during the snow emergency hours. Any vehicles left on city streets or in municipal lots risk being towed by city crews. Towed vehicles can be retrieved at the Solid Waste Department (Landfill) after paying a $315 fine using cash, money order, or credit card at any time during the emergency; after it ends, cars can only be picked up between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.

The Four Hills Landfill and Recycling Center will operate under normal hours during this period. Residents seeking updates about solid waste schedules should visit www.nashuanh.gov or call 603-589-3410.

City Hall operations may change depending on storm impacts; information will be posted online at www.nashuanh.gov or available via phone at 603-589-3000.

For school-related updates due to weather conditions, families are encouraged to check www.nashua.edu for announcements regarding schedule changes.

Transit riders should monitor ridebigblue.com or Facebook pages for service updates and can call 880-0100 with questions.

Updates about library hours and potential closures will appear at www.nashualibrary.org.

City officials stress that preparation ahead of the storm is important: “Preparedness is everyone’s responsibility. Take the time now to ensure that you and your family will be safe during this winter storm.” The City of Nashua Emergency Management Team continues coordinating efforts with federal forecasters while testing generators and preparing equipment across departments.

Ongoing information about response efforts and further advisories will continue to appear at www.nashuanh.gov.
