New Hampshire State Rep. Sam Farrington said in a May 24 post on X that differences between Tennessee and Virginia firearm carry laws — citing Bristol, a city split by the state line — show the need for national constitutional carry legislation.
“A road splits the city between two different states,” Farrington said. “I am allowed to exercise my second amendment rights in Tennessee, but the moment I cross the street into Virginia, I would be a criminal if I were to concealed carry without a permit. Newsflash: the US Constitution is your permit. Republicans in Congress need to get their act together and pass National Constitutional Carry.”
Handgunlaw.us lists Tennessee among the states that allow qualified adults to carry without a permit. Virginia requires a concealed handgun permit for concealed carry.
World Population Review lists 29 states with constitutional or permitless carry laws. The site also notes that congressional proposals have sought to address differences among state carry laws.
Farrington is a Republican representing Strafford District 8 in the New Hampshire House of Representatives. Citizens Count lists him as a farmer, University of New Hampshire student, and state representative who assumed office in 2024.
