Lisa Mazur, Republican state representative for New Hampshire’s House Hillsborough District 44, said a Democratic colleague opened debate with song lyrics while discussing a proposal for sex-based separations in school facilities, citing reports of girls avoiding shared restrooms over health concerns.
“this nh dem state rep actually started his floor speech against protecting women & girls’ private spaces with these song lyrics,” said Lisa M. Mazur, Representatives. “yuck. i personally know of little girls who have developed utis from having to ‘hold it’ all day because they are scared of sharing their school restroom with a boy, but he could care less. nh dems continue to be tone deaf.”
According to Mazur, she posted on X in response to a video of the Democratic representative’s floor speech regarding legislation for private spaces. The post described the speech’s beginning with lyrics and referenced instances of urinary tract infections among girls who feared using mixed-gender restrooms. The post garnered engagement, including 75 likes and 17 reposts, with replies addressing party approaches to the issue.
In New Hampshire, Senate Bill 268 passed the chamber in March 2025. The bill permits classifications by biological sex in lavatories, locker rooms, sports competitions, and detention facilities. It received a public hearing in April 2025 before the House Judiciary Committee. Supporters argue that the bill maintains necessary separations in these areas.
In the broader United States context, 27 states have enacted laws restricting transgender students from participating in school sports consistent with their gender identity at K-12 and college levels. These statutes affect facilities and competitions across various settings. The Supreme Court considered challenges to such policies from Idaho and West Virginia in January 2026.
Mazur assumed office as a Republican member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives for Hillsborough District 44 on December 7, 2022. She serves as Vice Chair on the Health, Human Services and Elderly Affairs Committee and is also a field representative for Turning Point Action.
