Southern New Hampshire Rehabilitation & Healthcare ranks No. 2 in Hillsborough County nursing homes for Q1

Southern New Hampshire Rehabilitation & Healthcare was identified as Hillsborough County’s second largest nursing home for the first quarter of 2026, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) reported.

The facility offered 290 beds, which was 184 more than the county average as of the first quarter of 2026. During this period, the center cared for an average of 227.9 residents per day.

The CMS assigned Southern New Hampshire Rehabilitation & Healthcare an overall rating of 1 out of 5, below the New Hampshire state average of 2.9 for nursing homes.

Hillsborough County Nursing Home was the county’s largest facility with 300 beds, while Ridgewood Center, Genesis Healthcare ranked third with 150 beds available.

As of the first quarter of 2026, Southern New Hampshire Rehabilitation & Healthcare reported no fines or penalties.

In Hillsborough County, there were 16 for-profit nursing homes total.

Estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau indicate the nation’s older population continues to grow as the number of children decreases. Between 2020 and 2024, Americans 65 and above increased by 13%, while those under 18 declined by 1.7%. The older adult population in the U.S. has risen substantially over the past 100 years, expanding from 4.9 million in 1920 to over 61 million in 2024.

A 2021 analysis found that nearly half of Americans in this age group—around 28 million—could need long-term services and support. More than a third may eventually require nursing home care, according to projections.

“Living a long life is something that many of us want and could get,” said Jesse Slome, executive director of the American Association for Long-Term Care Insurance. “But when we live a long life, the chances of us needing long-term care increase exponentially. But when you need that type of care, there are limited options.”
