Dear Neighbor,
Over the past couple of years, the Select Board has received complaints of speeding on Main Street. While the average speeds recorded are between 30mph and 33 mph, there are certainly “flyers”. During a period from December 2020 and April 2021 overwhelmingly the average high speeds were about 45mph. In this same time period 60% of all vehicles were traveling under 30mph and 94% of all vehicles under 40mph.
The make-up of Main Street residents has changed drastically over the past few years with younger families and small children. We want to keep everyone safe. Beyond directed speed patrols by the Police Department, the Select Board has been looking at various methods to bring the remaining 6% of drivers into moderate compliance such as additional crosswalks, permanent radar speed signs and reducing the speed limit.
We would like to invite you to a community forum on:
Monday, June 13th at the Town Hall at 5:30pm
to hear your ideas and answer your questions regarding speeding on Main Street.
Please join us and help us make Main Street a safe community village for all.
