Town of Temple issued the following announcement on October 8.

All Temple preschoolers are invited to attend a special storytime with author and illustrator Marty Kelley followed by a book giveaway on Wednesday, October 27 at 11:30 a.m. in the Temple Town Hall. The event will kick-off the Children’s Literacy Foundation (CLif) Rural Libraries grant program.

Earlier this year, the Mansfield Public Library was one of 12 libraries across Vermont and New Hampshire awarded the grant, aimed at public libraries in towns with a population of 5,000 or less.

Kelley has written and illustrated more than a dozen children’s books including Twelve Terrible Things, Fall is Not Easy, and the Molly Mac series.  Following the preschool event, Kelley will present to students at Temple Elementary School, who will also receive free books.

The grant program provides two storytelling presentations by CLiF’s Vermont and New Hampshire authors/illustrators and storytellers, new books for the public library, new books for the local elementary school library, a mini-grant for library programming, and new books for each child to pick out for themselves.

CLiF Program Director Meredith Scott says, “During COVID, staff and volunteers of public libraries have worked so hard to offer their communities the services they count on from the library – computer use, research, books/movies/audio recordings, programming, connections, and gathering space. CLiF looks forward to working with these twelve libraries as they continue to creatively enrich the lives of kids and families.”

Families are asked to register for the event to ensure there are enough books for all children. Register by emailing the library at mansfieldlibrarynh@comcast.net or calling 878-3100. Masks are required inside the Town Hall for all attendees two and older.
