Ahead of tonight’s vote to pass a bipartisan budget agreement, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) released the following statement:

“Defaulting on our debt would create an unprecedented economic catastrophe that would kill jobs, force us into a recession, send costs for families skyrocketing, and undermine America’s standing in the world. I am encouraged to see a bipartisan agreement reached that removes the risk of default, protects critical programs like veterans benefits, Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid, and also reduces future spending and cuts the deficit. No compromise is perfect, but failing to pass this measure is simply not a responsible option. I will support this legislation when it gets to the House floor so we can move beyond this crisis and focus on solving problems instead of playing politics.”
