On June 13, Representatives Chris Pappas (NH-01), Jimmy Panetta (CA-19), and María Elvira Salazar (FL-27) introduced the bipartisan United States-Israel Health Technologies Cooperation Act alongside a bipartisan group of 54 of their colleagues.

This bipartisan legislation will reauthorize a successful 3-year U.S.-Israeli cooperative grant program to jointly develop health technologies, enabling American researchers and companies to leverage Israeli expertise in the development of drugs, vaccines, AI solutions, respiratory assist devices, diagnostic tests, and telemedicine.

“American doctors, scientists, and researchers aren't alone in developing new treatments, vaccines, and other life-saving advancements in medicine,” said Congressman Pappas. "Their counterparts in Israel are making groundbreaking developments as well. That’s why I’m introducing this bipartisan legislation to continue the U.S. and Israel’s bilateral efforts to address the world’s emerging health issues, develop innovative solutions, and save lives.”

“The United States and Israel lead the world in the development of innovative health technologies that push forward global health and improve patient outcomes,” said Congressman Panetta. “This bipartisan legislation strengthens the multi-decade partnership between our two counties through new investments in collaborative health research and development. By advancing the use of technology, personalized medicine, and public health data, we’ll continue to foster American-Israeli leadership in this critical sector.”

“Aside from being our greatest ally in the Middle East, Israel also possesses one of the most innovative and advanced healthcare technology sectors in the world,” said Congresswoman Salazar. “I am proud to co-lead legislation that would further expand private partnerships between Israeli and American companies in Miami to ensure our countries remain at the forefront of health innovation worldwide.”

Background:

In the 116th Congress, Pappas introduced legislation to authorize a bilateral grant program with Israel to jointly develop cutting-edge health technologies, and secured the passage of key provisions of his bill in the FY2021 NDAA, authorizing the program for 2021-2023.
